In August 2025, the international initiative CARAVANE – Climate Art Fusion took part in the 13th edition of the Non-Festival (Ne-festival) in Lukovica, near Ljubljana, Slovenia. Organized by ZAVOD BOB, this four-day international exchange journey gathered young European artists and practitioners from Slovenia, Croatia, Spain, and Georgia at a lakeside campsite. Surrounded by natural forests and water, the setting provided an ecologically attuned backdrop for a dedicated Co-Creation Lab that utilized Theatre of the Oppressed methodologies to critically explore climate justice, structural social inequalities, and collective community resilience.
The immersive festival program strategically wove together specialized artistic training, daily governing assemblies, and hands-on environmental actions. Participants took part in interactive workshops focused on staging theatrical interventions in public spaces, shared grassroots practices within a fluid, horizontal “Open Space” dialogue, and trained within a Forum Theatre Laboratory to analyze audience engagement and co-created dramaturgy. To further anchor the artistic practices into sustainable living, the group engaged in early-morning community farming alongside local agricultural laborers, exploring food systems and real-world land stewardship.
The collective process culminated on August 29, 2025, with a series of public, lakeside performances designed to provoke civic dialogue and audience intervention. The theatrical presentations included “Sender Unknown,” which addressed cyberbullying and responsibility; “Tik-Tak,” a choreographed reflection on the time pressures facing youth; and “Caravane Voices for Climate Justice,” an open forum on ecological fragility. Grounded in a comprehensive safety and consent awareness concept, the event successfully demonstrated how cross-border youth collaboration can transform public spaces into active platforms for social change and climate advocacy.
