International Twin City Tourfilm Festival Georgia-Spain: 24 November 2025
On 24 November 2025, the University of Málaga hosted the Twin City International Tourism Film Festival: Marbella–Batumi, an event organised within the framework of the CARAVANE Project EU. The festival celebrated creative dialogue between Georgia and Spain, bringing together filmmakers, tourism specialists, young creators, and industry representatives to rethink how culture, tourism, and sustainability can be communicated through film.
Opening Ceremony & Welcoming Reception
The evening began with a welcoming reception at Salón de Grados (Teatinos Campus). Guests were greeted by organisers, university representatives, and members of the CARAVANE programme. The ceremony introduced the aims of the Marbella–Batumi Twin Festival initiative and highlighted the importance of international collaboration in sustainable tourism storytelling.
Among the invited speakers were representatives from the University of Málaga, along with Natia Mikava, Michel Cruz, and Temur Zoidze. The Georgian Lab participants were also introduced, emphasising the role of youth film education and cross-border creative exchange within the CARAVANE network.
Film Screenings: Tourism & Cultural Narratives
A curated selection of short films from Georgia and Spain was screened, showcasing local perspectives on cultural heritage, community identities, and tourism experiences. The audience explored distinct visual approaches to promoting destinations, while reflecting on how film can shape sustainable attitudes toward travel.
Coffee Break & Networking
A short coffee break allowed jury members and attendees to meet, share impressions, and exchange industry perspectives. For many young filmmakers present, it became an informal learning moment — a chance to make connections, ask questions, and discover different professional pathways in tourism media.
Panel Discussion: Culture, Marketing & Sustainability
The event continued with a panel discussion dedicated to the evolving relationship between tourism video marketing, cultural storytelling, and sustainability. Filmmakers, tourism experts, and students engaged in a lively debate, exploring new industry trends and ethical approaches to destination promotion. The conversation underlined how creative media can inspire respect for local environments, empower communities, and support responsible tourism development.
Awards & Closing Celebration
The evening concluded with an awards ceremony recognising outstanding short films and innovative ideas presented at the festival. The closing remarks highlighted the value of continued cooperation between Georgia and Spain, encouraging future artistic exchanges under the CARAVANE umbrella.
The event ended on a warm and memorable note with a final musical performance by Georgian Lab participant Merab Dolidze, joined by fellow young artists — a fitting celebration of cultural connection, creativity, and shared artistic spirit.
